Our government works very hard in order to provide you with efficient services and products. Moreover, it also works rigorously in order to ensure your safety. One such initiative is the MOT tests. Being a car owner in the United Kingdom, you must be aware of the annual MOT tests that are designed to inspect your car for its safety standards. If you plan to drive on the roads of the UK without any interference from the local authorities, your vehicle must possess a ‘pass’ MOT certificate.
In case you do not have much idea about MOT tests, allow us to make you aware of our MOT testing procedures.
What are MOT tests and why should I get it?
The MOT test is an annual vehicle inspection that is designed by the Ministry of Transport, in order to ensure your utmost safety on the road. The test was originated some years back to inspect smaller vehicles that were older than ten years of age. However, as per the new MOT regulation, you must get a ‘VT20’ or a ‘Pass’ MOT certificate if your vehicle is older than three years of age.
Moreover, if you don’t want to pay huge fines and penalties to the traffic authorities, you must get your car tested for an MOT inspection. Our garage, Rikfit Autocentre, is certified by the DVSA (Driver and vehicle standards agency) to conduct MOT tests and award eligible people with certificates.
In case, you are unaware of the aspects that are checked in an MOT test, be our guest as we explain some of them.
What is checked in an MOT test?
Brakes: As mentioned above, MOT tests check your vehicle for its safety standards. Therefore, MOT inspectors check your car’s brakes for any discrepancy or malfunctioning.
Tyres: Tyres are another part of your car that ensures your safety on the road. Therefore, MOT Birmingham check your tyres for any damages or cuts. Moreover, they also inspect them for legal regulations such as tread limit. If your tyres are below 1.6mm of tread depth, you are likely to fail the MOT test.
Suspension: Your car’ suspension is the primary element that ensures your safety on the road. MOT inspectors check your car’s suspension and shock absorbers to identify any problem.
Clear view for the driver: In case, your car’s windscreen has any stickers or anything that could block your view, you must remove it before coming for an MOT test. This is because any blockage in the driver’s view can result in accidents. Therefore, MOT takes it seriously.
